Well, I've been away from Spaces for a while, but I think I will start getting on here a bit more. Why? I have no clue. Call it build up and a need to release. Call it a life with things happening and this being a the medium of choice. Call it what you may but I think I'm back.

Windows Media Player 11 Released

Wow, I'm getting tired blogging about all these newly released apps from Microsoft... should I even keep doing this? Well, I only blog about apps that I like ;)

Anyways, I've been using MP11 Beta1 and 2 and they have been okay. I definitely saw some quirkiness with Beta2 but I think it was an isolated case and haven't seen it occur since. Well, without further ado, Microsoft has released Media Player 11. Go get your copy!

Windows Defender Released

Windows Defender was released yesterday by Microsoft. This is Microsoft's antispyware application, which I used for a while when it was still in Beta. I stopped using it for a while but decided to install it yesterday after its release. So far so good. Actually, I loved the beta back then, so my guess this is just as good or even better. The best thing about it, is that it's free!

First of all, how many "Jayson's" do you really know with that kind of spelling?? Now, how many Jayson's were born in the Philippines? Wait scratch that... how many "Jayson Go's" do you know are from the Philippines... no no no wait scratch that again... how may Jayson Go's do you know were born in Cebu City, Philippines?? I only know of one! Me.

Look at that link... apparently there's some other Jayson Go, born at the same exact city I was, same spelling and everything that moved to Canada when he was 3. Crazy... All this from doing a search for "Jayson Go" on Windows Live.

Liquid ban lifted

As I was going through a horrible ordeal with Frontier today, (I'll blog about that later), I found some good news in all the mess I was in. The TSA has lifted the ban on toiletries that has caused much disdain from us road warriors. The full story can be found here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13018902/, and starting tomorrow, the lifted ban goes into effect. I was elated, yet dejected of my Frontier situation.

Who's yo blood donor?

Me.

I decided a couple weeks ago that I would start donating blood. I attribute this decision to my mother. My mom used to donated blood all the time and now that she's moved to Toronto, I wanted to do something that I think she would be proud of. I kind of term it as "picking up the slack" that she left behind :)

At any rate, today was the day. This is the first time I've ever donated blood. I don't think I was really nervous about it, although, when the lady took my blood pressure, it was slightly elevated. She asked whether I was nervous and I told her no. I was more curious of the process than anything. I asked her whether it matters which arm we use (because I had heard that your dominant-side arm is 'better'), and she said no. So, I decided to go with my less dominant arm.

Unfortunately, I don't have the biggest veins in town. We started with the left arm, and that barely pumped any blood. So after a few minutes of wiggling around and it just not working, we decided to go with the other arm. Fortunately, the blood never reached the bag. Had it done so, then I would've lost eligibility to donate blood; something to do with the amount of blood that's in the lines...and how that's a threshold for 'something'. Anyways, we went with the right arm and that was much better. Except, the needle was up against the side of the vein, so I could feel it pulsating. The guy drawing my blood actually had to sit there and baby sit the whole process...wigglin', jigglin' and whatever other movements you can do with a 4 inch needle in your vein.

Overall, it was a good experience. I don't think it was a big deal at all that they had to invade both my arms. I'll definitely do it again (Nov.4 is my next eligibility). I didn't feel woozy or any uncomfortable feeling after the whole process; and I expected to...so that was a pleasant surprise.

Marriott Gold Status

Today marks my 50th night stay at the Marriott Hotels...so now I'm a Gold Rewards member. They even left me a couple pieces of chocolate on my pillow. Very sweet indeed...what more could I ask for?

The Switch

So many of you have asked why I switched from Gmail to Hotmail. And maybe some of you are just quietly, wondering. I can answer that with 3 words: Windows Live Mail. Microsoft is in beta with their gmail counterpart. Now, I really do like Microsoft. I'm starting to sway towards Microsoft again, and away from Google. These two giants are going to battle it out to the end...I think you just have to pick one at this point and go with it. I'm going with Microsoft.

So is that really why I switched?

Well, here are the true details of why I switched:

True integration with my preferred instant messaging client (Windows Live Messenger). I no longer have a distinction between an "email" contact and an "IM" contact. They're all the same thing. I believe these contacts are actually referred to as Windows Live Accounts, now.
I was tired of running Gmail Notifier or Google Talk to get notified about when new emails came into my gmail account. For some reason, I didn't like the thought of installing software for such a miniscule, albeit, important task. Hotmail is integrated with Msn Messenger and will tell you when there's new mail...in a nice, but noticeable part of the application.
Spam. I was averaging at least 10 spam emails into my gmail account. Yes, most likely, that's my fault for visiting so many pr0n sites and really, this isn't much of an argument either because gmail handled all those spam emails spectacularly. So, I think this is more of the plain fact that I know my email address is circling about around out there, when in fact, it should be stored in trusted contacts. And I'm sure at some point, I'll start getting spam email again...but hey I don't look that far head.

So there a few things to note. Live Mail currently does not have two things that I enjoyed about gmail; 1) the ability to archive email (easily) and 2) the ability to create filters to throw certain emails into specified folders (or as gmail called it, Labels). Now, on point #2, gmail's version of that functionality isn't that much better or I should say, it was a bit lacking. You couldn't designate more than one email address, so I'm really hoping that when Live Mail throws that feature in, they'll allow more than one email address.

So there you have it.
And I do apologize to everyone that has gone through this with me already.
